VASIE INSTRUCTORS

Paul Van Alstine

VASIE Creator, Owner of Studio One

Paul Van Alstine, B.S., Certified Advanced Rolfer, and VASIE developer has over 20 years of teaching Pilates, developing training programs, and doing Manual therapy as a Certified Advanced Rolfer TM. Chronic pain controlled much of my life for almost 20 years. At this point I feel blessed to be out of pain and physically still improving into my late 50's. My inspiration comes from seeing how well bodies can change and improve from almost any starting point. I love working with beginners and people at all levels. I am inspired by our clients of all ages who show up consistently and make amazing progress through education and persistence.

Ana Kokaurova

Ana Kokaurova has been the training director at Studio One Pilates in Anchorage Alaska since 2002. As a certified Advanced Rolfer since 2005 Ana has contributed to the VASIE Pilates method of teaching by developing programs like the Healthy Back & Joint Basics, Restore Your Post-Baby Core, Pelvic Floor Power Up, VASIE Teacher Training, VASIE Ballet Barre. Most recently, Ana Kokaurova has developed and launched VASIE Pilates online, a program that helps studio one members and former members stay connected and in shape through online access.

Why I came to Studio One as a client:

I came to Studio One close to eleven years ago to find my "abs" and ended up with so much more. I've gained so much knowledge about my own body from Paul, Ana, and all the other instructors and in turn use that to help all of you gain strength in your own bodies. The best part truly are the friendships I've made and all the terrific stories of success found here at the studio. We're always moving forward and hope you'll join us!

Training/Education/Past life:

During my early years at the studio I was a full-time professional gardener. That's right: garden all day and teach Pilates at night. After having my daughter (she's 5) I switched gears to full-time instructor, part-time gardener. My higher education includes schooling for Horticulture and continuous training here at the studio.

Favorite thing about Alaska:

My favorite thing about Alaska is the fact I grew up here and digging up all the "remember when" stories from my clients. There are some good ones!

Guilty Pleasure:

I would say guilty pleasures are scary movies and rock & roll. The best "guilty pleasure" is when I get to take class here... the ultimate!

Why I came to Studio One as a client:

I came to the studio about three years ago. During that time I was struggling with multiple dance injuries, which eventually prevented me from being able to return.

I started with a 2-week boot camp and was amazed with the results, returning to dance only six months later after doing Pilates regularly at Studio One. I have now been an instructor for over two years and love every minute of it!

Training/Education/Past life:

I received most of my dance training with Alaska Dance Theatre and Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy. I also attended dance intensives with The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and Vaganova Ballet Academy.

Graduated from East High School in 2008.

Graduated from UAA in 2014, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Environment and Society.

Favorite thing about Alaska:

I was born and raised here in Alaska. I enjoy the easy ability to escape from the city to some of the most beautiful and pristine environments.

Guilty Pleasure:

I love watching the Little Mermaid. It is my favorite movie!

Why I came to Studio One as a client:

I became a client at Studio One after the recommendation of my physical therapist who had been treating me for a damaged disc and low back pain. My PT said that Studio One was the place for me to strengthen my core and start back to a daily exercise program that had been stalled because of my back pain and total knee replacements. He was right! As my core strength has increased, my back pain has decreased. I love learning how to apply Vasie Pilates to my own body, and having the opportunity to share that knowledge with others.

Training/Education/Past life:

I am the mother to three amazing adult children, have lived on four continents, and in five countries. I am a certified personal trainer, worked as a chocolatier, a baker, and a hairdresser.

Favorite thing about Alaska:

What can I say, I love Alaska!
