What Is Rofling® Structural Integration?
When referring to the body the term "structural integration" refers to a holistic approach aimed at improving the alignment, balance, and integration of the body's structural components, such as muscles, fascia, and bones. It focuses on optimizing the body's posture, movement patterns, and overall function by addressing imbalances and restrictions within the musculoskeletal system.
Structural integration techniques typically involve hands-on manipulation and manual therapy methods, such as massage, myo-fascial release, and movement re-education. The goal is to bring about positive changes in alignment, and movement mechanics, leading to improved physical performance, reduced pain or discomfort, and enhanced overall well-being.
The concept of structural integration was initially developed by Ida Rolf, who founded the Rolfing® method. Rolfing® is a specific form of structural integration that aims to create a more balanced and integrated body through a series of sessions that target different areas of the body's connective tissue (fascia). By working with the fascial system, structural integration seeks to optimize the body's overall structural integrity and functionality.
Structural integration is often used as a complementary approach to address various musculoskeletal conditions, postural imbalances, movement restrictions, and chronic pain. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body's tissues and the role of proper alignment and integration in supporting optimal function and well-being.
